Default New to Chevy and to Suburbans... Looking for used and reliable

Greetings,

I have a 2006 Ford F350 diesel that I inherited, and have been using for towing a 26ft travel trailer (4800lb unloaded), and also towing a 28ft boat trailer (3500lb).

I'm selling the Ford/trading in.

I think that I am looking for a 2007-2014 Chevy Suburban 2500 to replace the Ford, but I need some reassurance and advice.

What is the best model year for reliability?

What do I need to do to make the vehicle most reliable?

What models/features should I avoid?

Anything else I need to be wary of, when looking at Suburbans?

Thanks all!

Try to stay 10 and above. 6 speed tranny vs a 4 speed. Most of the computer glitches were fixed

Well, good luck finding a 2014 Suburban 2500. 2013 was the last year they made them. ;-)

My 2008 has been awesome, and totally reliable. I've logged close to 10,000 miles towing a heavy travel trailer, as well as several thousand more towing a 3500-lb cargo trailer. Odometer is up to 145k. Frankly, it's never been in the repair shop for anything but regular maintenance.

Mine is completely loaded, and all of the options still work as they should.

Incorrect. The 2007 trucks did not have the 6-speed, they still had the 4-speed. My '08 has the six-speed.

All of them will have the 3.73 rear, and the 6.0 motor. Base and LS will have cloth seats (or vinyl, in base/government units), LT will have leather. Sublevels of the LT trim are 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. 3LT is as high as you can go. No LTZ option on the 2500.

Base units might be 9 passengers, having a flip up center console and bench front seat. Most will be 7 or 8, depending whether they have a middle bench or middle captains chairs. Mine was actually a 6-passenger - it had the Escalade third row that had map pockets and only seated two. I bought a 3-across third row off eBay for $700.

The GMC Yukon XL 2500 is identical, so make sure you add it to any searches. No Denali trim is available on the 2500.

2009 added the integrated trailer brake controller.

The only thing to be wary of is gas mileage. I get 12-13 around town, and 14-15 on the highway. The larger, 39-gallon gas tank helps.

Just like intheburbs our 2011 has been bullet proof. We have roughly 73000 miles on ours. It is used to haul our family of 5, 2 80# dogs, in laws and our 4000# boat or side by sides and 4 wheelers. Unbelievable truck.
