Default New here trying to find my first Burban.

Hey everyone! Really like browsing through the forums. Im looking at purchasing a suburban in the 2013 or 2014 range.

While looking at these used vehicles what are the common things I should be looking for as a possible problem down the road with these particular vehicles. Or any known problems to look out for at certain mileages.

Also after dealing with my Ford Edge and its problems I was very glad I purchased the extended warranty.

Would the ALLY GMPP Major Guard be my best bet on a good reliable extended warranty? Would anybody be able to tell me what kind of price I should be looking at?

Thank you,
Christopher

Mostly with these rigs it's personal preference. My knowledge isn't as current as others, but things to pay special attention to are transfercases and transmissions.

I know that the ones in the first few years after 07 had some oil consumption issues but I believe that to be rectified.

Actually, the transmissions in these trucks are not problematic at all. My three trucks have over 400k miles between them, and all have had zero transmission issues. The 6L80 is rock solid.

To the OP, you're looking at relatively new vehicles. Unless it's a lemon, you're unlikely to find any major issues.

The AFM in the 5.3 is always a problem, IMHO.
IF you're looking at the higher trim levels, just make sure all of the gizmos work as they should. If you have a mechanic give it a once-over, that'd probably be enough for me.

I'm not a big fan of extended warranties. I bought my '08 Burb with 100k on the clock, and I've beaten it to hell over the last two years - heavy towing, hard driving, frame-scraping fourwheeling, etc. It's up to 144k, and has not been in a repair shop for a single issue. Zip. Zero. Nada. The only thing I had to do besides regular maintenance was replace the purge solenoid, which was a $20 part and a 15-minute job I did myself.
