Ok got a problem that is bugging the hell out of me right now not sure what it could be maybe some one else does. My check engine light does not work. It came on for the first time a couple days ago so i imideatly hooked a code reader to it. checked code but did not clear it. and now it dosnt work again. i kknow it should be on due to the code. is there a common short in the eletrical that i should check for. and if the light dosnt come on will a scan tool read if there is a code?

Ok just to clarify

light wouldnt come on period during start up or running.
randomly came on was able to read the code. but didnt reset it.
now dosnt come on again and scan tool reads no error codes.

What was the original code?

If the problem goes away, the DTC will reset after a certain number of run cycles.

its not that the code has reset its that the light dosnt come on period. i know the light is suppose to come on when the ignition is turned to the on position without starting it.

That is the most common cause. Close second cause is some hack removed the bulb.
