Default Oil pressure gauge 2003 tahoe

2003 Tahoe with 200k mi. Oil pressure gauge began pegging out today. Happened at all speeds. What are the potential issues with this, along with cause(s) and fixe(es)?

Welcome to the forum.,
Is the engine running and sound normal?
I would suspect the sending unit is defective or the gauge is bad...
replacing the sending unit would be the easiest shotgun fix without having the actual oil pressure checked...

Could be an open circuit on the sender line to the gauge.

Seems like the sending unit is the consensus. Thanks for the info.

Has anyone had the same problems on a 2003 Chevy Tahoe??

Exclamation 2003 Chevy Tahoe

My oil pressure low light came on, the oil gauge reading has been on 80 for two days before that light had came on but I had the oil changed the same day I noticed the gauge was on 80 and it still want move and I haven't drove it since I've noticed this. What could it be and do I need to take it to a dealer shop? Can I still drive it?

Welcome to the forum...
First off check the oil level and verify that the level is good on the dip stick
Too much oil can give a high reading... i suspect the problem you are having is with the sensor much like the original poster had on this thread...
If the engine is not clattering or knocking the oil pressure is probably okay, it should be addressed promptly though....

I have a similar problem. Chevy Avalanche 2005 5.3L oil pressure gauge pegged at 80. Even with engine off but switch on so fan runs gauge go to 80. Clearly this is a bad reading. How can I quickly determine if it is the gauge or sensor? Is the best option take it to the dealer.

I didn't bother taking it to the dealer. On mine, I had a bad sending unit. They are relatively easy to replace. It is located at the back end of the engine block, near the firewall. As long as you can reach the unit, you can replace it using a socket wrench. The only problem you will have is that it is an awkward reach to get at the unit. I used a mirror to help see what I was doing. It was about a 15 minute fix. Good luck.
