Please explain driver 1 and 2 settings RKE fobs
Can someone please explain to me how the key fob #1 and #2 work? I have a '06 Suburban LTZ with memory seats and mirrors. I can program positions 1 and 2 in the memory for the door so when I get in and start, I can press 1 or 2 on the door and get different memory positions recalled.
I bought the 'burb used and there were no fobs so the dealer just went to their box of fobs and grabbed a couple. I knew better and said no, I want a 1 and 2 (on the back of the fob) as I knew someone with a different GM that recalled seat memory based on fob #. So they gave me a fob 1 and fob 2 and away I went. I didn't think too much of the seats or mirrors not moving, maybe just a feature that I don't have but this LTZ has everything else so I think I just got burned by not getting the original fobs. Now years later, I need a replacement fob and it occurred to me that I should verify the right part number for my vehicle and do the programming correctly for a vehicle with multiple drivers. The trouble is I am sure I should have this feature but the dealer doesn't want to help as there is no $$ in this problem for them.
Can someone explain how the driver 1 and driver 2 thing works? Someone told me that it just remembers where the seat and mirrors were when driver x locks the door. OK, fine but what are the memory positions in the door for? Are they the same as what the fob will recall or different? I mean if I store my settings in the door as #1 and my kid moves the seat up a foot and locks with fob 1 (assuming I get this all working) then later when I unlock with fob 1, will the seat go up a foot forward as it was when he locked it or will it go to where I have it saved in position 1 for the door button?
Is it possible I got the wrong P/N fobs?
Is it possible they skipped a step in the programming and made them the same without driver 1 or 2?
Any other tips or suggestions other than talk to my dealer?
Thanks so much for any help.

I believe the 1 & 2 on the back of the fob is really a way for you to keep up with which number you are. I believe that if you program the remotes, the order that you put them in will determine seating position 1 or 2 regardless of what the back of the FOB says. If some moves the seat or changes that climate/radio settings it should go back to your original settings when you unlock the door with your numbered/programmed FOB, unless they press the button and hold until it beeps, which at that point it's in the memory. I've got the instructions on how to program the remotes around somewhere, it's a google search away. I'm trying to sort it out on my 2012, they don't have anything on the back of them, but they seem to work the same. One is position 1 and the 2nd the other, although on the 12 it allows me to select whether I want the memory seats to adjust based on the RKE/FOB.

Starting in 2005, all full size trucks and utilities have had a change to the way the drivers personalization operates. Vehicles equipped with memory seats will now only recall seat, mirror and pedal settings for driver 1 and 2 from the buttons located on the driver's door panel. The key fobs will no longer recall memory positions. The DIC will no longer display Driver 1 or Driver 2 like in previous years.
Radio presets, HVAC and DIC setting (examples Auto Door Locks, Curb View Assist, etc) are now set to the vehicle, meaning there is only one setting for both drivers.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

I read somewhere that Lexus sets everything (including the HVAC/presets, and even the rear view mirror as well as steering wheel height / tilt and depth (in/out)... by recognizing your cell phone via bluetooth.
so.. if I get in my car, it knows it's ME because of my phone
if the wife gets in the same car, it knows it's her because of her phone
slick.

Hi Louis, I would like to buy a couple of new key fobs that fit my 2004 Tahoe. I have purchased some online but they don't have the memory seat control. Does the Chevrolet dealer still have access to order these FOBs?
