Looks good! Very surprised to see that K&N used an enclosed box to cover the filter.

How does it sound. How much louder is this intake than the stock intake? Is it very noticable at all throttle levels?

Thanks for the pics. If you want them to show up in the thread, go back to edit and click the box for picture embedded!

It is much louder than stock and no you can't hear it at all rpms its only noticable after about 3,000 rpm and when you are passing other cars.

Doesn't look much different than the stock one except probably doesn't have the resonance chamber hanging down from it. Probably one reason it's louder.

The old Hemholtz resonator. Last time I heard that referenced was in the sales brochure of my '68 GTO and how they were using it for low restriction mufflers. I wonder if that's what the chamber on the stock one is for? I just assumed it was to quiet intake roar.

Hemholtz, sounds like a bomb or something. Remember, only 26 here!

So what the hell is the Hemholtz resonator supposed to do? Resonate sound?

biglg,
You mentiond oil free air filters. As we know, AEM has an oil free. Outlaw Power has the NeverOil washable filter available on their 2007 Tahoe intake. Their NeverOil filter faq is here: http://www.outlawpower.com/productdocs/Filter_FAQ.pdf

In terms of design and quality, my two favorite intakes are from Outlaw Power and Banks Power. However, the Banks is only available with an oiled cotton filter whereas with the Outlaw Power, you can choose between their NeverOil and their oiled cotton filter.

Regarding Hemholtz resonators:

Quoted from: http://www.outlawpower.com/productdetail.php?sc=1584

"Outlaw Power intake tube is available with or without the Hemholtz resonator that is located to the side of the induction tube. This Hemholtz resonator is tuned as a power "boost bottle", not as a muffler and not as a silencer. This boost bottle is engineered for a reserve of air at 3500 RPM. You may see other companies' attempts at this engineering technique, but they have miserably failed. Engineering requires engineers! If you do not have any engineering knowledge, you end up with a resonator bottle that is fabricated for 8000+ RPM. Then they wonder why their intake system makes no power!"

Quoted from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmholtz_resonance

"Helmholtz resonance finds application in internal combustion engines (see airbox), subwoofers and acoustics. In stringed instruments, such as the guitar and violin, the resonance curve of the instrument has the Helmholtz resonance as one of its peaks, along with other peaks coming from resonances of the vibration of the wood."
