Steering wheel lock question

Hello folks,
Does your 2007+ Tahoe lock the steering wheel when you take the key out? Today I noticed mine does not do this. Is this only my truck or all are the same? I don't think Tahoe even needs this since when the enigne is not running the steering is hard as hell to turn. However I am curious. Thanks.

when you remove the key try turning the wheel all the way to the left or right, that should put it in the lock position.

My '02 Suburban does not have the steering wheel locking mechanism and I just took for granted the '08 Tahoe doesn't either. I thought GM eliminated this several years ago in all of their vehicles?

Are you saying that your '07 wheel locks after key removal?

Yes I tried 1/4 turn to the left and then 1/4 turn to the right. It did not lock. Does it lock on yours?

I just checked and it dosn't lock. I thought it did. Why would they not want the wheel to lock?

RE: Steering wheel lock question

The integrated steering wheel lock device was introduced in the 70's as another anti-theft measure, this device is no longer affective so it has been eliminated. GM has employed new PassLock anti-theft systems into the Tahoe which are more effective and less prone to malfunction.

Was there ever an instance where one of the plastic teeth broke and allowed the wheel to lock with the key in the on position?

Steering wheels have locked up more times than you could shake a stick at, and that goes for all the manufacturers.

I'll bet that's a cheap thrill if you're going down the hwy at speed. Probably have some extra laundry when you get home. ;)
