Suburban 2015 rough idle. dealer feeding BS???

you must spend a ton of time idling if its rubbing you that badly, these vehicles are far more advanced than the average driver will ever realize so what is a "simple fix" in your eyes may completely throw off the tuning. Your best bet is to keep your cool and work with a dealer or accept it may be a normal operating characteristic, throwing money at lawyers will probably just thin your wallet and make GM slam a door in your face. I can't speak for everywhere but when someone throws a tantrum around here they get escorted out and told to come back if they can handle themselves maturely.

Recently drove my partners 15 Tahoe from Miami-NYC and back..Drove it a lot in NYC gridlock..Had the same issue..Did not think much about it as it ran flawlessly otherwise.
Plan on getting a late model Tahoe myself after I sell my high mileage Crown Vic later in the year..In fact my 4.6 Vic has had that same issue [for over 200K miles] since I got it almost new in 05..Never even mentioned it to the dealer when it was in for service.

I also have the rough idle problem with my 2015 Suburban, 5.3L V8. Idle often becomes rough below 500 rpm, but is intermittent. A search around the net finds many, many posts just like these. I suspect that there are hundreds if not thousands with this same issue. I believe this all stems from government regulations requiring higher and higher fuel economy standards, and this is the type of thing that can result. Anyway, I think GM's approach toward compliance is in part to reduce fuel consumption at idle by reducing the fuel consumption just up to or near the point of engine stall. This goes over the limit on some of the engines produced (like mine - lucky me!), and causes the rough idle. I think GM takes the same approach on at least the 6.2L engine, as I read the same issues with them. I think this is a quality control issue, since it sounds like the problem doesn't exist on all Suburbans, Tahoes, etc. I do wonder if the Escalades are having the same issue, as I would think quality control would be better on those.
We have pushed this issue with a dealer, and they finally agreed to the infamous motor-mount "fix"; we will do later this week and see if it takes care of the symptom, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.
Someone in this chain mentioned a fix by increasing the rpm by 25-50 or so. I searched and found this post because I had the same fix in mind, as I noticed the rough idle is ALWAYS experienced when the tach needle is below 500 rpm. I believe this is the true remedy, treating the real cause as opposed to treating the symptom with the motor mounts. Glad to hear someone is able to program an adjustment - maybe this will become more popular and lead to GM fixing it this way. But if GM were to make this programming adjustment, they might then have a fuel-consumption compliance issue. They better do something, or they will have a sales issue!
For those that propose bad fuel, spark plug, and other general/common fixes, that may be the case for a few, but there is a real problem for the masses here, and I think unless GM is pushed, those of us with this problem are going to be expected to just live with it - and that's NOT acceptable to me. Come on GM - you are better than that! I still drive my "Like a Rock" 2001 Silverado with over 350,000 miles and have never had any engine or transmission issues to prove it!!!

Our 2005 mazda tribute has a shakey idle... I just adjusted the nut on the throttle cable a hair to raise the idle about 100 RPM
A little harder to do with a computer throttle, but I imagine someone, somewhere has a screen where they can just enter an idle value...

My new 2016 tahoe is doing the same thing. Its scaring me i feel like it is going to crap out. The last car that acted like this the alternator or whatever it is that keeps the car "running" afte it is started needed to be replaced.
Unfortunately I bought from a dealership in Dallas and had them drive it to me in Houston so going back to my dealership is not an option

Nichole, I highly doubt your problem here is with the alternator.
If the idle is bad enough to scare you, or even cause you some concern, I would take it to a Chevy dealership. You should be able to have it serviced by any Chevy dealer, and not have to take it back to Dallas. They may propose motor-mount adjustment as their solution, but don't expect it to help much, if any. When we got our Suburban back (reference previous post), it did not help at all.
Good luck!

[QUOTE=Thinkright;329793]Nichole, I highly doubt your problem here is with the alternator.
Haha I understand that Thinkright. It is not fair to spend $60k plus on a brand new vehicle and it not run pristine. I will be taking it to my local dealership this weekend but I am sure as with all issues when you try to show someone it does not act up. I messaged my sales guy from Dallas and he said "Ok I dont think anything is wrong with it but for piece of mind you can bring it in".
It feels really disrespectful for some reason, like I'm being dismissed.
My boyfriend thinks its normal and I am trying to explain to him you have a Camaro with a cam in it your car waddles from power, you put $6k in your car to make it faster and more torque or whatever. My situation is different, but no big deal to him. Maybe I should just get over it, obviously none of yall have found the issue either. It's going to be embarrassing when I have friends or family in the car and it is doing it. Awkward!
