Default Tahoe axles?

I just bought a new (to me) 2007 Tahoe 4wd. I checked the build codes in the glove compartment and I found that I did not have limited slip. So my question here is what axles my car has. Couldn't find much info on it online, and I was hoping to find some limited slip differentials (front and rear).

Any help you guys can give would be great, Thanks!

Arrow Here You Go

I hope this helps!

Look again at the RPO codes on the sticker in your glovebox. Look at the codes that you have starting with a "G".

G80 - Locking Rear Differential
GQ1 - AXLE REAR, STD RATIO
GT4 - AXLE REAR, 3.73 RATIO
GT5 - AXLE REAR, 4.10 RATIO
GU4 - AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 - AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 - AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO

Ok, that will help out with the rear axle ratios, but do you know what the rear end and front end axles actually are?

From what little info I have found I think I have an 8.5" rear axle (10 bolt) with 28 spline axles. Correct me if I am mistaken on this one. The real problem I am having is figuring out what the front axle is. I would prefer to be able to buy the limited slip differentials as I can rather than just drop the car off at a drivetrain specialist and have them order whichever parts I might need.

Question

Ah, my bad. I thought you were looking just for the ratios.

Here are the specifications for the Rear Axle:

8-1/2" ring gear (10 bolt) 3.73 ratio (opt GT4)
8-1/2" ring gear (10 bolt) 3.42 ratio (opt GU6)
8-1/2" ring gear (10 bolt) 3.23 ratio (opt GU5)
9-1/2" ring gear (14 bolt) 3.42 ratio (opt GU6)
8-1/2" ring gear (10 bolt) 4.10 ratio (opt GT5)
9-1/2" ring gear (14 bolt) 4.10 ratio (opt GT5)

Hmmm..... Unfortunately, I cannot offer much help with information on the front axle. Are the front and rear not the same? I know the gear ratio's are, but I cannot confirm the axle specifications.

From what info I have gathered the 07 tahoe has an 8.25 IFS front axle. And from what else I have gathered, nobody makes a posi/lsd for that particular front axle. Just a heads up for anyone that might want to know. Also if anyone finds a posi/lsd that will work please let me know.

Welcome to the forum.

You do realize that the G80 is a locking diff, not limited slip.

Yep, but I don't really see what that has to do with anything. I am looking at putting a limited slip into the rear end my car has. My car does not have the G80 option, therefore no locker. Hence the space where a locker/lsd would be is not really being used, hence I can put a limited slip in there.

I thought all of the Tahoes came w/ the G80 but I see that it was an option on everything but the LTZ.

Default Good front and rear axles???

So i got a 2007 tahoe Ltz 4x4. Ended up putting a 7 and a 1/2 inch suspension rough country lift on 35s. I went out mudding as soon as I pull into wash my truck my front axle snapped. This is my toy so I'm just looking for some sturdy axles to handle some fun in the mud. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated!!

"During normal driving conditions, the MLocker (G80) functions as a light-bias limited slip differential. When a low-traction situation occurs that causes a wheel speed difference greater than 100 RPM, a flyweight mechanism opens to engage a latching bracket."

You can contact Yukon Gear and ask a tech about what you are saying you want. That tech can tell you what is possible and what you would have to have to do it. They supply all that, if it can be done.
