Default Two topics fro 2007 Tahoe: Trans Cooler and Poor A/C

Now that MI is out of the deepfreeze I am looking for help on two fronts on my 2007 Tahoe.

1 - My Tahoe did not come with a trans cooler. I tow stuff and need one - trans temp ran 190 degrees last WINTER pulling the snowmo trailer and will get worse this summer. Dealer says the factory part #19171483 is new and not yet available and no date on when it will be. Thinking of going aftermarket but don't want to void my 5/100 warrantly. Has anyone else added a trans cooler? I would appreciate any input.

2 - I got my Tahoe in late September and the A/C seemed to work fine with a setting of around 70 on the CC. Last week it got up to 75 degrees and I had to turn the CC all the way down to 64-65 to get a comfortable temp. It seems like changing the temp setting 1-2 degrees has very little effect on the actual temps. Concerned about a lack of cooling this summer. Turning it to max (60 degrees) results in a lot of cold air so I'm thinking it must be the interior temperature sensor and not the A/C system itself. Before I take it in and argue with the dealer I would appreciate input from others who have experienced this as well.

Thanks!
Fred

That's news to me. I inquired at my dealer back in Nov. '06, and the dealer quoted me a price right away. Don't see why your dealer can't find the part. Try http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/accessories/and click on "Accessory Parts". I've bought stuff there and it's usually cheaper than the dealer price (and same part).

Great topic, AC temp.

Ok, I havent had the AC on much until yesterday. It was finally a warm 90 outside. I was very disapointed on the AC temp with it set at 60 for all vents including rear AC. I had it cranked and on for a long drive. Now, did I get "cool", yes. Did I have to turn it warmer than 60 because I was getting cold, absolutely not. The windows are tinted, and I have cashmere interior. So the sun shouldnt be an issue. Now, my air comparison is on my daily driver. A 1999 ford escort, that is right. It was my finance's first car and I have kept it around as my daily driver. However, it is a POS but the AC is no comparison. I have no tint on the windows and the air gets super cold. There is no way i could turn it to the coldest setting with the fan on high and leave it for a long drive. My hands and feet would be frost bit! I have had other vehicles, new Dodge Rams with colder air than my Tahoes also.

Therefore, is my Tahoe AC poor? Or is it normal and Tahoe's AC just isnt great overall. It just worries me because when it gets 100* outside I dont see the AC even reaching a comfortable temperature for me. Yes, I like it cold, and always seem to be hot when everyone else is cold. But there is no way my Escort and our new BMW should have this much better of an AC system. I thought i might have just been crazy yesterday after I drove the Tahoe. So I got home and did the hand test. I left my hand right in front of the vents in the tahoe, and escort to see if there was a difference. There is no doubt that the escort was drastically cooler with both being on the coldest settings.

Anyone else notice similar issues? Maybe mine needs charged? Any ideas, I know nothing about the AC and how they operate on new vehicles.

I live in Phoenix and have only used my A/C twice so far. I set the temp dail to the coolest setting and just recirculate the inside air front and rear. Cold air blows thru out the interior. Don't know if that is normal but I'm quite surprised as well as pleased to not have to crank the A/C yet. Sorry, this does not directly answer your question but could lend some insight. Good luck.

A/C Response:

I traded in my 03 HD2500CC for the 2007 Tahoe. It's AC was weak from day one and would stop blowing cold air unless you were moving - not enough airflow. There were TSB's that helped to keep it working, but didn't make it any colder overall. In the summer/fall of 2004 GM introduced improved A/C for the 04 trucksand a retro-fit kit for the 03's. Unfortuantely I was already out of warranty (36/36) so in the spring of 2005 I paid the $400+ for the retro-fit. Viola! Instant cold A/C.

I am hoping to avoid a repeat of that scenario. I fear that GM employed something on the A/C to help improve the fuel economy, but instead results in poor A/C. I also cranked mine at 60 degrees for a while and it is definitely not "ice cold". In several previous GM vehicles with automatic climate control I never had to go below 68 degrees. Imagine my surprise when I had to set it at 64-65 in order to be comfortable in 75 degree weather.....

Trans Cooler Response:

The part number on gmparts direct (and several other websites) is the coolerkitfor the old body style. My dealer swears up and down it will not fit the 2007.

Thanks all for responding!!!

Could this be unique to 07's with Auto units that have the ability to dial ina specifictemp. Mine is just the simple red to blue temp dial and I have not had any problems but as I mentioned before I have not used the A/C but twice.

The HVAC system on the 07 Tahoe should provide very comfortable cabin temperatures even on the hottest of days if it is working properly.

Have the dealer check the system out; we have seen several A/C that were not charged fully at the factory (Including my wife's Tahoe).

Thanks again for the replies. I will set both my vehicles AC's to max (07 Tahoe and 04 Trailblazer) and compare temps before I take it in. ZX1100F1's comments make sense to me in that the AC works, it just doesn't respondvery quickly, which would tend to reflect a low amount of freon in the system.
