Hopefully this doesn't become a widespread problem.

So far not much of an issue with a vehicle involvement rate of just 0.0000047 it is surprising to see a news story on it, but you can see that the reason it's newsworthy is simply because of the Ford epidemic of cruise control modules burning cars and homes down and thier reluctance to resolve the issue..

It looks like this is still happening. Hopefully GM finds the issue soon.

First of all, what is so combustible to make a vehicle explode? Gasoline only catches on fire and burns quickly, it does not have any explosive force. There is a third party involved in that. Car bomb comes to mind... but probably not really likely.

Oh yeah, this is a much better explanation. Probably some terrorists targeting Tahoe/Yukon owners.

Actually, Gasoline doesn't burn. The vapors from gasoline are what burn... In a fuel tank that has less gas than air (1/4 tank remaining), there is a greater explosive force than a tank that is full. Been there, seen that -- 13 years in the fire service.

Kind of like propane... it's not the liquid that you need to worry about - it's the gas....

YIKES

Saying gasoline doesn't explode is like saying oxygen doesn't burn. Gasoline vapor mixed with the correct proportion of air and an ignition source will explode just as oxygen with most any combustible substance will promote rapid burning a la Apollo 1. []

I agree with both of you, I was just being sarcastic when I made the terrorist comment in reference to EuroGoldLS stating that he thought it was a car bomb. I really didn't think the car bomb explanation was a good one.

Back to the original topic, I will not worry about it either. But I want to find out if the Vehicles who caught fire had aftermarket add-ons i.e. HID balast, etc.
