Default XM to Sirius changeover

I was wondering if its possible to change out the XM module in my LTZ to a Sirius unit and still retain the integrated features with the touchscreen?

Just curious

Pre-2006, yes. GM changed the bus interface in 2006 so right now there isn't a conversion module available (although one was on display at CES this past January). No release date available.

Can't you just hold out until the merger...

The merger won't change anything. Check the links in the other thread. In short: the deal (per their FCC filing) means XM equipment will still only receive the current XM stations. It sucks, and it's kind of a screw-job in my opinion (they could add XM channels and broadcast Sirius content there, and vice-versa), but that's the joy of life with a monopoly.

If you hold out for the "merger" you'll have the longest wait that you ever heard of.

Check out www.xmmerger.comit sounds like they are going to offerall channels on both services. That would be nice to get all the NFL games on XM.

Read xmmerger.com a little more carefully. For example:

We guarantee that noXM radio will become obsolete as a result of the merger. The two companies have millions of radios in the market, including many that are factory-installed in automobiles. After the merger, you will not need another radio to continue to receive the programming you now enjoy.
The boldface part basically says exactly what I'm telling you -- an XM radio will ONLY receive XM stations after the merger.

Their description of the service plans in their FCC filing were very unambiguous. With an XM radio, you get XM. Period. There is a full subscription or an XM a la carte subscription (from XM stations only). Same thing with a Sirius radio. Then there are plans for new hardware that receive both XM and Sirius. But there is no plan described that will provide Sirius stations on XM or vice versa. Plain and simple.

Well, I guess I will have to get one of those new radios, cause XM needs the NFL games...
