Default Making a Gasket?

OK, I need to replace the Secondary Air Injection Valve in my 2005 Trailblazer. I commented on this is a thread related to the vale.

In any case I order and received the valve. But dummy me I forgot to order the gasket that would be installed between the valve and the exhaust manifold. The gasket is a small one and it seems like it can easily be made.

Can anyone tell me the proper gasket material to use for this purpose? Seems like being on the exhaust manifold means the gasket will have to withstand some heat.

I'll be visiting my local NAPA dealer tomorrow but some knowledge ahead of that visit would be appreciated.

NAPA should have the material. I can't remember off hand what it is. But, it is simple to make.

Is the old one metal? Good question. I'm not sure. It'll have to wait until disassembly to find out.

If it is metal you can reuse it.

Thanks for that info. Thought I'd work on this project today but the interesting snowstorm we are having put a damper on that.

I did order some gasket material from NAPA that will be in Wednesday morning. My NAPA store did not have material suitable for the heat of the exhaust manifold in stock. Fortunately he called to make sure he ordered the right stuff. Not sure if I'll be able to get to town tomorrow morning though because of the snow.

When I removed the old inoperative valve I discovered that the gasket was indeed metal and looked to be in really good shape. I reused it when installing the new valve.

Thanks much for your assistance MDTAHOE!
