2014 Traverse - Chemical Smell from Inside Truck
Chemical smell. We have had our 2014 Chevy Traverse 2LT for approx 18months. 20,000 miles. It is in South Florida, this is our second one, we had a 2011. The issue is that we brought our truck into the dealer for an oil change. We also had an issue with the brake pedal making noise. So they did the oil change, they replaced the break booster, the entire thing.
But when we got it back, sometimes there is a shop smell in their for a little bit, but that goes away. This smell was horrible, smelled like a strong chemical order, brake fluid or other strong smell, it was not CO2, as that has no smell. This smell even with the windows down and AC re-circulation off, still smelled. We felt light-headed, headache, heavy chest, and sick to the stomach.
So brought it back to dealer, actually had it towed back. They first didn't smell it! But then a few others did, and they have no clue. They checked with CO2 sensor, nothing, they replaced the Airfilter, not it! But it was very dirty.
They even used an ionizer process like they do on used cars to get the smells out! That seemed to work, but when I went to pick it up today, after having it for 4-5 days, the smell was back. They said it was my rubber floor mats, which have been in the prior truck and this truck, but those did not smell either.
When the AC was running, it made it worse, you can smell it when it is just sitting there as well. Also the smell seems to be coming more from the driver side, more from above the seat area, or that is just where the airflow is and you smell it more. You can smell it through out the truck, but the carpets don't smell, the seats, or the floor mats, but could have something spilled under the carpet?
I know the dealer says they did not do anything, but could have something spilled when they were doing the brake booster, could something else may have been moved in the engine compartment that is causing this smell? I tried to search back on any Traverse issue via Google and I found some things, but not enough to actually say what it is.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated it. I did ask them to pull the carpets back in the front to see what is going on. Trust me, if this smell was there prior to bringing it in, my wife would not be driving it, that is how strong it was. I did not want to take it today, they asked me too, i let it idle with the windows up, then asked them to smell it again, they agreed there is a smell, but they can't pinpoint it.
Thanks.
