Traverse Premier Horns Upgrade
All,
I do not see or at least have not found a thread about this situation. I have a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse Premier FWD with 36,500 miles. No issues at this time other than I am wanting to make my horns louder. I bought a plug and play conversion kit which added two more horns to the original 2 horns using the original 20 amp circuit. The original horns consisted of two snail horns, one high note and one low note. I read where this is a 20 amp circuit and the 4 horns draw 18 - 19 amps when the steering wheel switch is engaged. The horns sound awful when they are together (all 4 at once) but they sound fine when done in pairs. I am guessing that when I engage all 4 horns, the circuit cannot really handle that load. I am looking for a way to wire in another low voltage solenoid to then engage a new 20 amp fused circuit to just handle the two extra horns which would pull about 8 - 10 amps. I am thinking this will fix the awful sounding snail horns and give me the extra volume in order to warn other drivers.
Anyone think I am on the wrong track? Anyone have a schematic and a description of how to accomplish this? I may have to take this to an audio shop in town and let them install this for me.
Thank you for any information you may have to keep me out of trouble. I know Chevrolet's are very sensitive to wiring issues and I would love to stay away from that all together.
