Alternator removal and repair manual q's
I'm already looking ahead to upgrading the alternator on my '08 Cargo Uplander though I have no issues currently but it looks like a very unpleasant experience to say the least.
Also, I've always done my own wrenching and was wondering if there's been any word about a Haynes/Chiltons manual ever being produced or if Mitchells/Alldata is the only alternative currently? I read about someone ordering a $200 shop manual but didn't know if that ever worked out. I'm going to call the local dealership and get a local price just in case....
I'm also getting the computer reprogrammed/tuned but with gas prices heading north, I may put this on hold...we'll see...
Thanks guys!

To replace the alternator you need to disconnect the battery first, then to remove windshield wiper link under the hood. Next step is to rotate the engine forward. To do so remove the engine mount strut bolts, swing the mount struts aside and pull the engine forward. There is a special GM tool/strap for this operation but you can use any robust nylon strap with appropriate hooks and ratchet. Trans should be in Neutral during this operation, parking brake set. After all this you'll have access to the drive belt/alternator and you know what to do after. Not a pleasant thing to do but this is the only possible way.
Thanks, I just needed some confirmation....I just don't understand why Chilton's or Haynes won't produce a manual unless it's due to the relatively short span of production. But then with all of the issues these vans seem to have (not unlike other foreign makes), you'd think it would be a gold mine lol...
