Had this problem with my 2009 Silverado tonight. Was on highway doing 65, was about to exit when lost power and got the stabilitrak off, engine light, and engine power reduced. I was able to pull over enough to prevent the semi behind me from hitting me. Believe I was a few seconds from a trip to the hospital or morgue. Turned engine off, waited, and restarted. Engine light stayed on everything else cleared. Stayed on back roads and it happen two more times on the way home. Will be contacting dealer in the morning, will also be contacting my lawyer, this is a obvious safety item that owners should (at a minimum) be notified about.

I took my 2013 Silverado to the dealership a couple weeks ago and the issue was a speed sensor on the front left tire. I have not had the problem again.

One thing I noticed on my 2011 Silverado is that when I started the truck the light did not come on until I moved the steering wheel. As soon as I moved the steering wheel it would come on and the problem turned out to be a steering wheel sensor.

Knowing there are multiple things that could cause this I am always wondering if and when the problem will come back. If it does I will post it here again.

Having the check engine light stay on would indicate that there are multiple problems.

I have seen reports of the steering wheel sensor being replaced, the most recent report that I have seen on another forum where we actually modify the throttlebody is the throttle position sensor on the throttlebody.

It seems that over time they develop a leak and get contaminated inside causing irratic signals.

This person indicated that the dealership was replacing a lot of them.

What GM does not seem to realize is there are too many sensors that they are trying to use to determine stability and direct all ecu response to the stabilitrak program which is at the very least... a nightmare!!!

@Official GM Rep - I know your not in a position to be responsible for any of this but the bottom line for those people who are, I don't think any of us want to see/hear a "I'm sorry your having this problem" , what we want to see/hear are solutions and answers. If you are truly a GM representative and have any initiative to be pro-active collect all this information together, there are multiple threads on this issue in many different forms that all represent a on-going problem that has not been addressed by GM. Push it forward to those that should feel it important and stay on them each and everytime someone posts a new report and cc the people up top.

I have a 2008 Trailblazer and the same problem as everyone else here. I had the steering wheel sensor replaced at the dealer about 10 months ago but the problem has now come back. I will never buy another car with ESC. I have owned 5 different GM vehicles in my lifetime so far but I'm thinking of something else next time.

For the Suburban/Escalade/Avalanche, I own a 2007 Avalanche ZLT
I had a series of events with the Stabilitrak problem. Thought I was going to find the engine on the asphalt.

Talking with associates in the mid-west, it seems that some dealerships were changing out the throttlebody on a lot of vehicles.

Seems that the throttle position sensor gets sluggish and does not respond quickly enough causing an error in the system (ie: the programming problem).

I have two throttlebody's for my Avalanche, one is fairly new and have had no problems with it, I disassembled the throttle position sensor on my other throttlebody and cleaned it out using compressed air and have not had any issues with it since.

Now, in the case of the throttlebody on these vehicles, it typically shows up at around 50,000 miles but this does not mean it cannot happen with newer models. If they are cutting corners on the quality control of these devices the error can occur at any time.

Have them change out the throttlebody or if possible at least clean the throttle position sensor.
