Default Windows only work if doors are open

2003 venture. The Windows work when both doors are open. But not when doors are closed. If I engage the latch with the doors open, ( making the switch) they no longer work, so it is not a problem with a broken wire in the pivot. I tried by passing the switch. But then the light stays on to tell the door is ajar.
Any ideas?

Hey Yogi, did you ever find the fix for this? We have the exact same problem with our 2003 Venture.

Edit: Our windows hadn't worked for months; was getting ready to replace switches again. Only found this was the problem because driver side latch wasn't fully resetting after opening door. I sprayed latches with WD-40 Specialist Degreaser, allowed to dry several hours, then sprayed with Blaster Silicone [with Teflon] Lubricant. Accidentally discovered windows work with both doors open. I didn't realize (duh) there was electrical inside the door latches. Several hours after spraying there were multiple false diagnostic displays on cluster (door ajar, rear hatch open, low fuel, low brake fluid), while activating window switches with vehicle doors closed, key in accessory position. Electrical messages seem to have subsided after sitting over night. No driveability problems so far. But the window problem has existed for months before any sprays applied. Just thought I'd mention it. Thanks.

usually it means the wires in the door harness, right where they bend back and forth, are broken

Do you mean inside the boot, adjacent to the door hinge?

Thank you so much! After a little observation and experimentation, this answer explains many symptoms in this vehicle.

But now the dilemma; what to do about it? Any suggestions? Replace the harness (ugh!!!!), splice in patches (ugh!!), ride it out til the vehicle dies?

I'll surf around to try to find answers, but it doesn't look pretty.

you have to cut that section out and rewire it (not the whole thing just from inside the door to the inside the Cab. if you just splice the wires it will fail even faster due to the stiff joints and no being able to flex
