Calling the financial crisis of the ’00s a mess is an absolute understatement. The housing market was eating itself, people were losing money left and right, there were no jobs, and the country was on the cusp of losing another million [jobs] if The Big Three automakers, Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, didn’t do something drastic. Ford found a way out, but Chrysler and General Motors essentially resorted to begging for cash. And the government gave it to them.

But there’s far more to the story than that. What might look like a success now with automakers currently hitting sales records buries the gross details that happened between the government, the unions, and the automakers’ top executives. Some even go so far as to say that the bailout flat-out violated bankruptcy law and say it never should have even been allowed to happen.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book Crash Course, Live Another Day: The Inside Story of the 2008 Auto Bailout is a documentary that attempts to pick apart and explain what really went down in those dark years and months. By talking to nearly all of the major players involved in the process of the bailout, Live Another Day wants to offer to story that most people do not know. And according to some of the reviews that have already come out, it’s a doozy.

Check out the trailer below and decide if you’re going to see the full documentary when it comes to a theater near you.
