92 Z24 Power Steering Leak
Just bought my daughter a 92 Z24 3.1 yesterday. Drove it today, pulled in the driveway and there was PS fluid leaking from the return line. I've never seen a hose set up like this so I have a few questions:
1. The leak is from the metal tube right where it makes the u-turn under the passenger door. Since this is a return line is there any reason I can't just cut the bad section of line out and replace with rubber hose?
2. Is there any reason the return line runs back along the frame, makes a loop and heads back to the engine compartment to the rack? I'm guessing its to get it out of the engine compartment to cool the fluid- but was wondering if I could simply run a shorter line from the pump to the return line from the rack.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

OK... so I found out the line thats leaking is called a return line 'cooler tube', so my guess was right. The problem is it looks like its a real pita to change. One of the brackets is right above the control arm and it looks like it would be difficult to get to one of the bolts.
Has anyone ever changed this line? Is it as bad as it looks? I'm considering just buying some straight tubing, bending my own line and splicing it in behind the control arm with a small piece of rubber hose. Before I do that though I'd like to know if this approach would cause any issues.
