hard start 2001 4.3
Great site and my 1st post... I have a 2001 GMC Savanna w/4.3 with 213,000 mi. hard start, changed ICM, Coil,Cap&rotor, Camshaft and crankshaft sensors, pulgs.... turns over but will not fire up. Tried gas in throttle body and fires right up. Will not restart unless I do this each time. I also installed a new fuel pump and fuel filter, still cranks but will not start. Spray with starter fluid starts right up WTF any help ??

Sounds like the gas is seeping back into the tank when pump is off. This would be caused by a bad check valve which was replaced when the new pump was installed. It is possible to get a faulty fuel pump. It is also possible to have a leak in the fuel line. Another possibility would be a bad fuel pressure regulator.

I replaced the fuel pump bout 2 1/2 years or 65,000 miles ago everything else is new this week. It was the $210 pump from Napa not the $350 Delco I'll go cheap again too many miles on the van anyway.....

def fuel delivery issue. is the pump kicking on when you turn key on? it should prime for 2 secs right after key is on. you can also check fuel pressure at the motor with a pressure tester. should be 45 psi if i remember correctly. double check spec tho. if the actual pressure is more than 5 psi lower or higher, then truck wont start. pulling fuel line and checking for gas doesn't work. engine needs a specific volume and pressure. it is possible just a relay, or loose wire at pump.

Pump does come on. I switched the starter and fuel pump relays both the same # no difference, checked connections and wiring....ordered a new pump on ebay under $60 same as Autozone for $210 got over 65,000 miles out of the last Zone pump van has too many miles on her to spend more $$$

With the labor involved in changing a fuel pump, it is wise not to buy one that is too cheap. With fuel pumps I have found it is wise to buy Delco or Delphi. You can find good deals on Delphi pumps.

Fuel pump is in and the ol van started right up It's also quieter than the old one and the same manufacture as the Auto Zone. Cant afford Delco right now but might get another 60-70,000 miles out of it, Really only an hour or so to drop the tank and reinstall......."ON THE ROAD AGAIN"
