Hi Shawn, I will ask you if you can get me some info on my truck in another post. Thanks for providing this service.
I suspect you have some sort of history with VW's - just call me Clouseau.
After I finished with the 1980 GMC, I went Japanese - Honda Prelude - modded it a bit and slalomed a bit and did a bit of track stuff with it. Then an old girlfriend wrecked her 1980 VW Scirocco. I made it into a GT3 race car and ran it at a few tracks in Eastern and Western Canada for a few years. I balanced the rods and pistons myself, flat-topped a set of diesel pistons that I put in the 1600 block with a 1500 crank (longer stroke) and got the flywheel weight down to about 8 lbs. The only 2 mechanical failures I ever had were a blown clutch - replaced with a diesel unit - and a shifter linkage that fell apart downshifting for the carousel at Westwood. It got safety wired after that.
