Default Amp install question

Hey guys, I am trying to install an amp to a stock 09 CD/DVD/NAV radio. I took it some where and they hooked the converter to the pillar behind the drivers seat. The bass sounds really distorted. I just want to know if anybody has connected a converter to the stock radio and where did you tap into get it to work properly. Thanks... Most line level converters have an adjustment on them to get rid of the distortion
