Default 1998 Silverado code P0430

What is the most common solution to clear code P0430 cat or O2 sensors. The Truck has 202,000 miles on it. I have very little oil consumption.

Also the starter drags when engine is warm. I have replaced the battery and starter. Any ideas

might be the O2 sensor, 200k you need to evaluate what the engine is doing. check the timing, plugs wires, cap, rotor, idle air control valve

Thanks Jesse06, I think with the starter draging it might be timing.

by dragging do you mean its taking a long time to start? like soon as you hop in you put the key and and crank the engine? if its just taking a long time to start, check your battery voltage, and altenator output. Try turning the key on for 10 seconds then cranking, this allows fuel pressure to build up. The fuel pumps in the gas tanks are junk in my opinion, but they all got them there. I liked the old fashion mechanical fuel pump that bolts to the side of the engine.

you cannot clear an emissions or EVAP code untill the PCM passes an ignition cycle with no faults. disconnecting your battery, will not clear this code. the problem must be fixed and then cleared, or fixed, and then pass 100 ignition cycles to clear itself. does the truck smell like gas when it idles? if it does then you have a bad cat. in this case it might be best to pay the 100$ diag and have a dealer look at it. its a common code, and several things can set it

98% of the time a cat code is a bad cat. There maybe a reason why it is bad but it still will need replacement.
