Default Need advice on possible purchase of 2012 Silverado

2012 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 LT extended cab Z71, 52,000 miles, $23900. Is this a good deal? Should I be worried about the high mileage for it only being a two year old truck? It has been well maintained as far as oil changes and regular maintenance. Need some advice please!!!!!

The "high mileage" will probably frighten some people; but the reality of it is that (in the majority of cases) higher mileage in a shorter period of time is a likely indicator that the truck was driven a lot of highway miles - versus short trips in town.

"Road miles" are always better than city miles, of course. If possible, see if you can find the number of HOURS on the engine; which might give a better indication of how much 'wear' is on it.

We have some sales reps who put on 110,000 miles on their cars in just three years. With proper maintenance, they are good for many, many more miles beyond that.

The Silverado - especially trucks with the 5.3L V8 - is a fairly well constructed vehicle and is still going to last you 200k with decent care. If you can get a good price on a 2012 with 50,000 miles and a competent mechanic gives it a thorough examination, I would say GO FOR IT!

How do I find out about the number of hours? Ask the dealer?

If you can drive the truck, press the button on the trip odometer -- and it should roll over to show the engine hours on the second click.

At least my 2004 Silverado does that.
