Picked up a 1998 k1500 that's in pretty good condition, but has some scary miles on it (220,000). Runs pretty good, just needs some little things.

The biggest thing right now is that I have no heat. Heater blows cold air on 2 and 3, and does nothing on 4 and very little, if anything, on 1.

Occasionally it will send out a burst of hot air, but 90% of the time it's just room temperature.

What's this sound like and what's the cost to fix it?

Low coolant level or bad intake manifold gaskets would be my first guess. Blower is another matter.

Check the heater hose going to the heater. Are they both hot? If one is much hotter than the other one then you have a clogged heater core. If they are both hot then you probably have a bad blend door actuator. You probably also have a bad blower motor resistor which is causing the different speeds not working.

Looked at it today. Coolant was empty which fixed the heat problem. Filled it and a little while later it was empty again.

Either a leak or the intake manifold gasket I'm guessing. I'll look in the morning to see if there's any sign of coolant leaking.

I feel like if it was actually the gasket it wouldn't be emptying out that fast... Am I wrong?

The truck runs ok, but gas pedal is a little slow to respond at times. Check engine light is on, flashes at times and is solid at other times.

I know it needs a tune up, but that makes me lean towards gasket....

What do you guys think?
