Angry Shifter Linkage problem

I have a 1999 Chevy C1500 and I recently took out my transmission(4l60e) to rebuild it, well I rebuilt it and put it back in, now my shifter linkage wont go back on correctly. When my transmission is in park, my column shifter is not and it's to far back to allow me to remove my key also it wont go back far enough to go into 1 and when I disconnect the linkage and move the column shifter into park it's like and 3/4 of an inch to far forward. Whenever I try to adjust it, it wont go back far enough to connect. Might anyone have some sort of ideas because Im literally being driven insane by the fact that this is why I cant drive right now.
