Default Silverado Towing Question

I recently bought a 2014 Silverado Crew Cab Z71, 5.3L with 3.08 gears. According to Chevy's website, this truck has a towing capacity of 6,800 LBS, but when I look at the manual it lists towing as 8,600 LBS. Which one is accurate? My travel trailer only weighs 5,700 LBS completely loaded so either way, I'm under the max weight. Just curious as to why it would list 2 different capacities.

I'm guessing that on the website you are looking under the 3.08 rear end and in your manual your seeing the max with the proper rear end, not yours.

There is no way you could tow that much with a 3.08 rear end without possible damage

The manual has the weight break down by gear ratio, engine, etc., but I agree with you, I'll stick with the 6,800lbs to be safe.

pahunter - I love my new Silverado. I drove a 2012 model before and you can't compare the interiors. The 2014 was totally redone and even though mine is 4x4, it rides just as smooth as a luxury car. I went with the 5.3 Echotech and you can really feel the extra 40 horsepower compared to the old 5.3. Went on my first road trip (about 200 miles) and I was averaging around 22MPG on the highway.

You are using a quality weight distributing hitch, right? Also I would recomend doing a complete trany and differential flush at 50K

Yes, I have a good weight distributing hitch. Like I said, my trailer only weighs 5,700 fully loaded so I should be good. It was just more curiosity than anything. We only go camping within 100 miles of our home so the towing is never long distance anyways. Thanks for the help.
