Default Volt Meter

My '04 Silverado has proven to be a pretty good truck so far - but something is causing me some concern. The voltmeter seems to be up close to the red part of the gauge - close to the "19" at the right side of the dial. I just noticed it today, so I am not sure how long it has been doing this.

My truck is running just fine and the battery appears to be functioning quite normally. Is this likely just a bad sensor or something?

There was also a problem with the gauges on all GM vehicles from 03 to I think 06. The stepper motors that operate all the gauges tend to go bad and you get erratic readings on all 6 of the gauges. Mine was the speedometer. You can replace these yourself if you can solder or you can send the cluster out for repair. Or you can pay the big bucks and let the dealer replace it for $600. This is only if your sensor is good.

All functions seem to be okay, so if I have one bad one in the cluster......then the voltmeter will just have to be it. Let's hope nothing else goes bad!
