Default Is a Yukon XL Denali a 1500 or 2500?

I know I am asking about a GMC in a Chevy forum but can someone please tell me if a Yukon XL Denali is a 1500 only or can it be either 1500 or 2500?

I know GMC Yukon XL can be 1500 or 2500 but what about the Denali? I found a chart that shows several options of Yukon XL and all options showed if it was 1/2 or 3/4 ton but the column was blank next to all Denali options. What is this thing?

I have a 2006 Suburban LTZ 1500 6.0L 3.73 gears and am looking for better towing but with at least the same or better equipment package and upgrade to 2500. Suggestions?

Is there a 2500 Suburban LTZ? What is the most comparable GMC Yukon XL 2500?

Thanks

There is no Suburban 2500 LTZ. You can get most of the options added to the LT trim. I suggest you go onto chevrolet.com and use the build-and-price tool to compare. Make sure a 3/4 ton Suburban is really the right vehicle for what you want to tow before you buy one, too.

Price point is what I'm trying to find out. In other words, what would it cost to get what I am looking for? Basically I want my 2006 Suburban 1500 LTZ 6.0 3.73 gears as a 2500 but I have not been keeping up with the GMT900 series / trim levels. Yukon XL Denali sounds nice as far as the trim level features, that is, at least as nice as my LTZ and the 6.2L sounds nice BUT I think it is only 1500 with 3.43 gears. So Yukon XL 2500 or Suburban 2500 then. I am just not familiar with trim levels. The issue with the website is I am almost certainly looking for 2009 or newer, 2007 at the oldest. Definately NOT 2012. I like the idea that '09 and newer are made in the US, not Mexico. All of my Suburbans so far were made in Janesville and I am suspicious of the build quality of the Mexican GMT900s (all the 2500s were made in MX in '07 &'08).

I am towing a 2012 Springdale 25' TT about 4300lbs empty. I haven't had it loaded it or had it on a scale yet. In fact, I haven't picked it up yet. My previous TT was a Skamper Kodiak 21TT, just a foot shorter and a few hundred pounds lighter. The Springdale is also about a foot higher up in the air and the 'burb was already struggling. I am considering as a backup plan, if the Springdale is troublesome, 4.10 gears with a tune or a different TV. Both travel trailers including people, cargo, tongue wt, etc. are within GVWR GCWR limits of the current setup. I just want more capability if I change tow vehicles but my wife doesn't want to loose the sat nav, sat radio, rear DVD, etc... The LTZ is NICE but I need a 2500!

I also just want to keep my options open, if someone offered to buy the TT AND TV, I want to know what it will take to buy what I would want in a TV. This would help with knowing if selling the TV + TT combo makes any sense.

Here is the trailer that made me decide to go ahead and buy a P/U. My 05 K1500 5.3 is less capable than what you are looking at, in terms of torque, final drive ratio, and rear axle rating; but my real concern is sway at highway speed and not enough margin for error on tongue weight. You might not have the tongue weight issue with your TT but you will definitely need sway control.

Honestly, if the items you are most concerned about are navigation and rear entertainment for the kids, these are things you can do aftermarket for a few thousand dollars if you do not find them already in a 2500. Since you are looking for a used one I would look at it that way, buy whatever is closest to what you want and then install whatever radio and TV screens you want.

If you do not need the third row seating or interior cargo space of the Suburban, you might consider a Silverado. You can get more towing capability with the bells and whistles you want.

Where did you hear they were building in Mexico now? My 2007 came out of Janesville but they closed that plant. I thought everything from Tahoes to Eskys came out of Arlington, TX.

Before you buy a 2500, suggest you ride/drive one as the ride will be a little harsher.

Speaking of 2500 full size GM SUV only, I said '09 or newer because they were NOT from MX. I said this based on this paragraph on the following Wikipedia page: "The 2500 Suburban was originally sourced from Silao, Mexico from 2007-2008 but was moved to the Arlington, Texas assembly plant for the 2009 model year, where production of all GM fullsize SUVs was consolidated after the closing of the Janesville plant.[37][38] Suburbans for the Mexican market however, are still manufactured in Silao"

Here are links to the Wikipedia page and the two footnotes:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yukon_XL

media.gm.com/content/media/us/en/news/news_detail.brand_gm.html/content/Pages/news/Plant_Facts/Other/Janesville

media.gm.com/content/Pages/news/us/en/2010/Oct/1001_gmsales/_jcr_content/rightpar/sectioncontainer/par/download/file.res/GM%20September%20Production%20by%20Plant.pdf

This is also NOT to say that all Suburbans and Yukon XLs are from MX either, but it sounds like the '07 & '08 2500s are from MX. And that is not a deal breaker but based more on some comments I have heard, the Mexican built GMT900s MAY not have as good build quality.

If want to tow a TT and need the power I would just get a Duramax, they have all of the trim levels to include what you have now and you will be surprised at how ell they pull.

Look for an 08 model 1500 with the 6.2l engine and 6 speed automatic. They are rare because that option was available for one year. Its a slightly detuned Escalade power train. We almost bought a 6.2l engine in our Tahoe at that time. Good luck in your search.

GM needs to just make a diesel 2500 already it's a bit ridiculous. Apparently the 2013 will have one but I won't beleive it till I see it in showrooms.
