Default Rear Lamp Swapping

The rear 3 lamps on the R & L sides on our '08 Uplander are listed as lamp numbers 3157LL (or the equiv "k", or #'s 3057, 4057, 4157, etc.) which do work fine; but I'm writing this to say you do not have to carry extra lamps in your emergency kit to replace a burned out rear flasher or brake lamp. When your rear brake or flasher burns out, simply repair it by swapping the top&middle lamps in that fixture; the housing removes with two recessed T-30 (torx) screws. From GM, all three bulbs (top-tail-only; middle-tail+flashers; bottom-reverse only) are the 2-filament 3157 (or its equiv), so the unused/fresh high-wattage (27W) filament contained in the top bulb is ready to work when whey you place it into the middle socket, then place burned out lamp into the top socket, as its "tail" (7W) filament is probably still good; so you effectively have all new lamps by just swapping the top&middle lamps in the fixture. Here in NYState, they don't give us warnings anymore, we get a ticket if a lamp is burned out, so it's good to change it when you find it. Also, from GM the bottom/reverse lamp is also a 3157, but it needs only to be a 3057 (one hi-W filament), so it can also be part of the lamp-swap routine to keep everything lit til you replace that lamp in the emergency kit. A local parts supplier told me that GM lists 3057LL for all three lamps simply because that's easier than listing three different bulb numbers...but you can get creative to keep them all lit and legal. Of course, a 3057 lamp doesn't work in either the top or middle sockets cause it has only the one hi-W filament, which won't activate from the Tails ckt.
