Sleeper Chevy Silverado Slays the Competition
A healthy dose of nitrous and some suspension voodoo make this Chevy Silverado one incredible sleeper!
The term sleeper has existed nearly as long as the sport of drag racing has. Generally encompassing vehicles that don’t necessarily look like they’re supposed to be fast. One could argue that pretty much any truck could be called a sleeper, of course. After all, they aren’t designed to be fast. In fact, pretty much everything about trucks like this innocuous Chevy Silverado make them less than ideal drag racers.
With large amounts of mass, little weight over the rear (drive) wheels, and a total lack of aerodynamics, trucks just don’t make great dragsters. Or do they? We’ve seen countless examples of fast trucks in recent years, ones that defy the basic laws of physics. And that includes this amazingly stock-looking box Chevy Silverado. Sporting a two-tone factory paint job and even basic Rally wheels, you’d never guess this thing is capable of tearing up drag strips across the nation.
But you’d be wrong. Here we get to see the Silverado work its magic at Truck Wars 3 at Middle Georgia Motorsports Park. And oh, how magical it is. With a diamond-plated toolbox in the bed, the pickup experiences a little wheel hop at first. But once it gains traction, it’s all over for the competition. This thing hooks so hard it even pulls a wheelie, propelling it down the track at ludicrous speed.
Of course, there’s no telling what’s under that big boxy hood. All we know for sure is that this Chevy Silverado has nitrous, at the very least. And we only know that because he purges at the line. Regardless, we do know that we’ll never underestimate the next plain looking Chevy Silverado we come across at a stoplight!
