GM Investing $150 Million Dollars in Flint Assembly Plant
Money will go toward automaker’s heavy duty trucks production, and to meet demand for 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
General Motors announced that the company will be investing $150 million in its Flint Assembly plant in Michigan. Since 2013, GM has put approximately $1.6 billion into the plant to increase production of its heavy-duty pickups.
“We have tremendous opportunities to grow our heavy-duty pickup business, because we’ve invested in capability, performance, innovation and capacity,” said GM President Mark Reuss in a recent press statement. “Our Flint team is up to the challenge to build world-class quality products to drive the growth.”
“Under the direction of Director Gerald Kariem of UAW Region 1D, Flint GM workers in the past year have secured 1,000 additional jobs which reflect the hard work of UAW members as they build heavy duty Chevy and GMC pickup trucks,” UAW Vice President Terry Dittes told the Detroit Free Press.
The Flint Assembly plant employs about 3,500 people, who work on producing heavy duty pickups, including the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and others.
This is continued good news for General Motors, who last month announced that they would also be investing $24 million dollars into their Fort Wayne, IN plant. It also speaks to the popularity of the pickup truck and SUV segment. General Motors are just one of many automakers that are giving the people what they want by increasing truck and SUV production and options.
