Space Oddity: Classic Corvettes Skyrocket Over Recent C8 Reveal
Corvette Forum was at the recent C8 reveal and found a display of classic ‘Vettes with a fascinating history.
Our partner site Corvette Forum has had a pretty wild month. They went down to Cape Canaveral, Florida, to the Kennedy Space Center for the unveiling of the 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray convertible.
There is no lack of shiny, new Corvette magnificence to take in. However, among that, they found a trio of vintage Corvettes on display were definitely compelling. The cars were part of the “Heroes & Hot Rods” exhibit, and they all possessed compelling backstories.
NASA and Corvette have had a long relationship, with ‘Vettes being the chosen ride for many astronauts.
One 2006 Corvette (pictured above) belonging to NASA Safety Specialist John Legere revealed autographs of 35 astronauts and 18 Corvette drivers, engineers, and executives on its engine cover.
Each Corvette told a story, but few were as exciting as that of a 1967 Corvette (pictured above), owned by none other than Neil Armstrong himself.
Today, this historic Corvette looks exactly as it did when it when Armstrong owned it. And it, along with the autographed tribute, looked fantastic sitting next to the car that started it all: a 1953 Corvette.
