Contaminated engines

GM has opened a new Customer Satisfaction Program to cover the replacement of engines with contaminated blocks.

The GM Customer Satisfaction Program is designed to address customer concerns when their vehicle has an issue. These issues can be recalls or less severe quality problems. And thanks to contaminated 5.3L V8 engine blocks, GM was forced to create Customer Satisfaction Program N242455301. Certain 2024 Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles with the 5.3L (RPO L84) were built with contaminated engine blocks. Because of this, GM issued a Stop Delivery order to dealers back on June 13. That order remains in effect. This new program states that any effected vehicle will need to receive a new engine and the parts should be available in the near future.

Because parts are limited the repairs will be offered in phases. GM will mark certain VINs in an “Open” status in the Investigate Vehicle History screen in the GM Global Warranty Management tool. When a vehicle with a VIN in open status appears in the system, the dealer can order the parts required to carry out the repairs.

According to the documentation included in the new program, it will take technicians approximately 20 hours to complete the engine swap. This program will remain in effect until September 30, 2026.

Customer Action

Customers impacted by this program should begin to receive notification letters in September. The letter will explain that due to possible engine contamination, GM will replace the engine in their vehicle free of charge. Customers will be directed to contact their dealership as soon as possible to schedule the engine replacement. Because of the amount of time needed to complete the repair, customers should expect to leave their vehicle at the dealership for several days. Customers who have vehicles that are covered by this program will be provided with courtesy transportation.
