1954 Chevy 210 Custom Wagon: Back in Black

Rare classic station wagon might be the ideal way to enjoy the car hobby with your family in tow.

Before SUVs, before minivans, there were station wagons. To many enthusiasts — us included — there’s an undeniable cool factor to them that simply cannot be replicated with any other family hauler.

At the end of the day, a station wagon is just like a sedan with a little extra weight and a little extra space out back. The same modifications that look great on coupes and sedans — a lowered stance, a nice set of wheels — will look just as good on a wagon. If you’ve got to carry a lot of people and their stuff, there’s really no better way to do it.

This 1954 Chevrolet 210 Custom Wagon is a great example of that. Lowered, but still practical, it wears stagged 18- and 20-inch wheels from Billet Specialties. Updated with a more modern Chevy 350 V-8 and a Turbo 350 transmission, this classic wagon is equally prepared for a long trip or local errand-running.

An MSD ignition, Lokar floor shifter, front disc brakes, and various Heidts suspension components add to the total package, making this a pure and simple “get in and drive” car. Reliability shouldn’t be a concern, and we’re more than willing to give up a few modern conveniences to be seen driving something this cool.

The subtle wood trim on the exterior is accentuated by a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a stunning two-tone interior. No need to worry about termites – that exterior wood trim is airbrushed. Could have fooled us.

The roll and pleat black and brown seats look terrific stuffed inside of this rare station wagon body style. You certainly won’t see another one like it at your next cruise-in. If you’re looking for something different out of your classic street rod, you’d have a hard time doing better than this blast from the past.
