1994 Chevy Blazer Isn’t Your Average Cream Puff SUV
Forget about today’s soft and non-offensive crossovers. If we’re going to drive an SUV, it’s going to be something like this tough Chevy Blazer!
These days, SUVs are, well, boring. They’re designed to appeal to a wide variety of people and they’re chock full of non-offensive styling and features. They ride well, handle well, and get good gas mileage. They’re reliable and comfortable, too. So why would anyone complain about such things, you ask? Well, today’s ‘utes simply lack character. We could care less about fitting in with the Joneses – we want big, brutish, capable off-road SUVs. You know, like manufacturers used to build. SUVs like this 1994 Chevy Blazer.
We spotted this badass Chevy Blazer build over at Mecum Auctions. And it admittedly made us a little misty eyed. Partly because we miss the days when you could buy awesome stuff like this. And also because we just flat out miss the Blazer, whether you’re talking about full-size examples like this or the compact ones. This was a no-nonsense utility vehicle, built on a truck chassis with real four-wheel drive and a V8 under the hood. Thankfully, we’ve still got the Tahoe to check those boxes. But the Blazer was on another level.
This one most certainly is. With a fresh orange and black two-tone paint job, it looks like someone’s Halloween nightmare. The massive brush guard, lifted suspension, and big tires are guaranteed to scare the crossover-driving soccer moms in your neighborhood. Both ends of this Chevy Blazer look beefy enough to push those same crappy ‘utes out of your way during rush hour, which is admittedly something we envision every single day.
While the days of tough truck-based SUVs is nearly completely gone, that doesn’t mean we can’t still want for them. And it’s nice to know that there are a few hearty folks out there keeping this bygone genre alive!
