2005 Chevrolet SSR

Pickup truck, roadster, muscle car — this is one of the few vehicles in the world that offers everything in one package.

Pickup trucks, for the most part, are usually one-trick ponies. Home Depot runs, towing large cargo, these are examples of what trucks are good at doing. There was a time, though, when Chevrolet sold a truck that offered drivers with the ability to have it all in the form of the SSR pickup. And we managed to find one for sale through Hemmings.

The 2005 SSR pickup we found is the one that muscle car enthusiasts with love and that’s because of the glorious item that’s hiding underneath the massive hood. This vehicle features the larger 6.0-liter V8 motor that pumps out 390 horsepower. And in this specific SSR that’s for sale, the engine is paired to a six-speed manual transmission. I don’t have to tell you how rare that is.

The exterior mixes silver and black in a two-tone paint scheme, with chrome bringing out the grille and wheels. The SSR’s muscular body hides a useable pickup bed at the back and the two-tone paint job conceals the truck’s ability to transform into a roadster. Being able to put the top down and carry all of the necessary equipment to rebuild a deck is something that automakers will never offer again.

On the inside, the SSR isn’t exactly noteworthy, but it’s enough to keep you comfortable on a regular basis. Just like the exterior, there’s a two-tone theme on the gray and black leather seats. The rest of the interior is black with bits of chrome trim pieces, which, unfortunately, isn’t documented well in the listing.

The SSR, as the listing states, has 88,000 miles on the clock, so it’s been thoroughly enjoyed, and is priced at a realistic $28,900. This may be the only vehicle in the world that allows drivers to have the versatility of a pickup truck, the open-air feeling of a roadster, and the performance of a muscle car. And the best part is the manual gearbox. Someone has to buy this.
