GM’s Groundbreaking EV’s Detroit Auto Show Award Follows Motor Trend & Green Car Reports Honors

The fact that the 2017 Chevy Bolt continues to rack up awards is a testament to the fact that it’s not only a great EV, but a great vehicle — period. The latest in a string of accolades for the battery-electric vehicle comes in the form of North American Car of the Year honors at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Chevrolet’s Bolt beat out the Genesis G90 and Volvo S90 to take home the gold. Both are larger, four-door luxury sedans that are quite notable on their own accord.

2017 Chevy Bolt Named Car of the Year

It isn’t often that a “green” vehicle takes home such a prestigious award. But the Chevy Bolt is a groundbreaking car as General Motor’s first mass market electric car. The award follows both Motor Trend‘s Car of the Year and Green Car Reports’ Green Car of the Year honors.

With a base price of $37,500 and a range of 238 miles, the Bolt will sell for less than half the price of the Tesla Model S and Model X. Those two are the only other EVs available that exceed 200 miles of range.

The Chevy Bolt hit the market in California in December, with a national roll out set to happen later in 2017. Factoring in government incentives, prices could ultimately dip below the $30,000 mark. That makes the Bolt a very enticing purchase for both efficiency minded and environmentally conscious customers.

While it remains to be seen if the Bolt will be a sales success, GM has done an admirable job positioning it within the reach of most everyone. Following a tremendous amount of interest in the similarly priced, forthcoming Tesla Model 3, Chevy is undoubtedly expecting it to do quite well.
