2019 Chevrolet Silverado Prototypes Spotted (Video)

Big changes are on the horizon for all-new Chevy Silverado.

It’s no secret that the truck market is the most hotly contested automotive segment of all. These days, if you don’t make constant, continuous improvements, you risk falling far behind the competition. GM knows this all too well, which is why they’re investing a lot of time and money in the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.

We don’t yet know a lot of details surrounding the new full size trucks, but thanks to The Fast Lane Truck, we’ve got some pretty good video of several prototypes driving around town. And from these images alone, we can get an idea of some of the changes we can expect to see in 2019. What we can’t tell just yet is whether or not GM is making the rumored switch to aluminum body panels.

The new Silverado is expected to shed weight regardless, thanks to material and manufacturing changes. The truck will ride on a new frame, but the old school live rear axle remains. You can clearly see new LED headlights under that thin veil, and six lug wheel patterns. Most of the prototypes appear to have single exhaust pipes exiting the passenger side.

Overall exterior styling appears to be more evolutionary than revolutionary. But these sorts of things can be hard to tell with the kind of advanced camo automakers use these days. You can expect to see a combination of gas engines in the new GM half ton pickups, with hybrid power a likely possibility as well. And don’t forget about that new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are still quite a ways off. But it wouldn’t at all be surprising if both debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. We’ll likely know a lot more about both before January, however, so stay tuned!
