AMP Corvette ZR1 is the World’s Quickest in the Quarter Mile

By -

AMP C7 Corvette ZR1 shop car ran a pair of 8.57 quarter mile times at over 160 miles per hour.

The video above comes to us from the YouTube channel of Advanced Modern Performance and it features a C7 Corvette ZR1 setting the world record for the quickest quarter mile time by the new LT5-powered supercar. AMP, as the shop is better known, is a leader in modern Corvette performance, so it comes as little surprise that they are setting world records with the new ZR1, but it does come as a bit of a surprise that the Texas-based tuning shop was able to get so far into the 8-second range with so many key, stock parts.

AMP Corvette ZR5 Package

The new Corvette ZR1 in the video above is outfitted with the AMP ZR5 package, which obviously adds a whole lot of extra power to the LT5 V8.

While the engine block, crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons are stock, just about everything else in and on the engine has been upgraded or modified in some way. The LT5 cylinder heads have been ported and built, while the LT5 supercharger housing has also been ported. The shop has also added Kooks headers, a custom camshaft, an Innovators West 9% lower pulley, a Griptec 2.7-inch upper pulley, ID1050x fuel injectors, a methanol injection system, fuel system upgrades and all of the supporting engine components needed to comfortably handle the extra power.

The full list of features of the AMP ZR5 package is long and detailed, so if you are interested in reading through all of the components, click here to visit the shop’s website.

While the engine has been heavily upgraded, the rest of the engine is stock, including the transmission, the differential and the axles, but the car clearly has big, beefy drag radials to help put the power of this wicked Corvette ZR1 to the ground.

World Record Runs

The video above begins with a look at the AMP Corvette ZR1 shop car from a few different angles before we head off to the track for the record-setting action. The first pass down the track at the Texas Motorplex is a solid one, with the LT5-powered beast running an 8.72 at 160.1 miles per hour with a 60-foot time of 1.341-seconds.

On the next run, the Corvette got off of the line a whole lot hard, getting to the 60-foot mark in just 1.267 seconds, getting to the quarter mile stripe with a time of 8.572 and a speed of 160.62 miles per hour. The run is then backed up with the final pass of the video, with the new ZR1 running an 8.577 at 160.25 miles per hour, setting the C7 Corvette ZR1 boost-only record at 8.57 at 160 miles per hour.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
