Going page by page through engine controls I find references to an EGR in relation of other work. One has a cagey comment on the EGR "if equipped". ... WTF - does the vehicle have one or not!
Some of the illustrations have numbers that do not correspond to the instructions so I am not convinced what I am seeing isn't sloppy publishing.
Two illustrations show and EGR in front of the exhaust manifold. But I am not seeing it.
There are replacement EGRs on the market for the 2003 3500 Express so I am still assuming it is tucked in there somewhere.
All the videos I find show the part but the part does not exist where the videos show it.
Can it be seen from the front of the engine as the illustrations indicate?
Will someone please give me driving directions to get to the EGR?
post a photo of your engine, in the area shown in the drawing (the link I posted)
(looks like slightly forward and to the pass side of the oil filler neck, after removing the air cleaner assembly)
Maybe even the exhaust manifold and throttle body where the EGR pipe connects:

“If equipped” is there because these engines are used in several applications and/or destinations, all of which have different emissions requirements. A van on the coast is under much different emissions standards than the same size van would have in the Midwest - therefore, the manual is written in such a way as to include both options.
If it has an EGR valve at all, it should be easily visible from the front with the air cleaner and intake hoses removed; or with the dog house out.
Look at the exhaust manifolds - if one has a pipe attached at the front or top of the manifold, the other end of that pipe should lead to the EGR valve.
Reportedly a stuck EGR can disrupt the warm-up cycle.

So if the vehicle has and EGR what portion of the manual contains the removal and install info?
I want to get to the EGR because in searching the symptoms it is the clearest cause for why this issue is limited to the warm up period.

Inspecting / replacing or cleaning the EGR appeared to be worth the effort ... until I was unable to locate it.
I fished around with a camera where I could not see.
EGR mounting plate? Located under coolant reservoir, down and under electrical lines.
The pictures of EGRs tells me this is where is would be mounted - "if equipped".
Local GM Parts and gmpartsdirect.com tell me that based on the VIN, the vehicle was equipped but the part is now discontinued.
Feeling around under the plate there are no pipes.
So IF the vehicle "was equipped" w/ EGR valve and it was removed by the previous owner;
why isn't the Check Engine Light On.
How have I passed a hand full of emission inspections?
At best if it isn't there it can't be stuck or fowled and be the cause of my running problem during warm-up.
Which is worse because that still remains a mystery. : [
Despite there being no Engine Check Light On I suppose I will have the local auto parts run an OBD2 to see what I see.

maybe all engines get this bracket, but not the rest of the components.
Usually under the hood there's a sticker listing the emissions codes + regulation the vehicle conforms to.

I missed your link to the instructions thinking it was for the pic.
The issue is the one you have responded to in other posts.
A malfunctioning EGR fit it perfectly if it was stuck open.
engine starts
- very low idle
- no engine power until it is at operating temperature
-- touch gas and it almost stalls or stalls
-- rev engine and it returns to a very low idle almost stalling or stalls
-- put into gear and it almost stalls or stalls
-- try to drive and it stalls
once warm the van drives normally
