Bird scores $42,000 Silverado digs to raise her young family in.

Trucks sales might be booming across the globe these days, but in Alabama at least, they seem to have gone to the birds. Literally. Because a mourning dove and her two hatchlings have taken up residence in the cowl of one of a local Chevy dealership’s Silverado pickups. Clearly, this bird has good taste in trucks.

Our flying friend didn’t choose a bare bones work truck to raise the kids in, either. She picked a nicely optioned Chevy Silverado with a $42,000 sticker price. And apparently, she has a thing for the color red as well. The bird missed out on her original choice after it was sold out from under her (literally). But Rick Carlisle, sales manager at Southern Chevrolet, “hatched” a plan.

“We got an identical truck and lined it up. I didn’t know if the color mattered or not to the bird but we got a red one just in case,” Carlisle told WKRG. He then carefully moved the nest to the new truck in the same exact spot. “The mother bird didn’t seem to mind too much; within a few minutes she was settled in like it had never happened.”

The bird won’t be forced to move again, however, until she’s done raising her doves. Carlisle says that her new home is off the market for now. And that decision appears to have served as good karma. Since word got out about their feathered friend, folks are “flocking” to the dealership to see her.
