C6 Corvette Takes To Dragstrip And Gets Schooled By Diesel RAM Pickup
Sleeper cars are unexpectedly fast, and this C6 got a big surprise at the strip.
You show up at the track in your C6 Corvette, and get ready to stage. You’ve got some mods, and it’s a genuinely quick car now. But as you pull up to the staging lanes, the truck you thought was towing a race car ends up ligning up next to you.
At first it may seem like it’s for a laugh. But it’s no laughing matter when a RAM diesel obliterates your 60ft, and clears the 1/4 mile well over an entire second faster than you. What is this hellish nightmare? Well, we spotted the anomaly over at HotCars, who put together a bunch of situations where pickup trucks obliterated high performance cars on the drag strip.
It’s fair to say that sleeper trucks are impressive. Diesel power means they can take boost like crazy, and that means super high horsepower. But they have weight against them. To a very high degree. Plus suspension that doesn’t exactly have performance in mind versus carrying a heavy load.
The Corvette is a known fast car, and even faster in this version. We can tell alone from the speed of this car, it has some upgrades, because it’s ZR1 fast, but definitely not a ZR1. Even so, these cars live for the drag strip.
The race itself is the biggest surprise. We know by now the diesel RAM is going to be fast. But watching the truck jump off the line with such ferocity is truly a surreal scene. We don’t get a 60ft time, but it smashes the Corvette. And the 1/4 mile time? Who the heck would have expected a 9 second run? Surely not the Corvette driver, confidently in the 11 second range.
Overall the Corvette ran an 11.3 at 120.4 miles per hour. It’s impressive, and plenty fast for any Corvette. The RAM’s performance is even more impressive at 9.68 seconds at 147 miles per hour. Yeah, it wasn’t even close. Crushed 60 ft times, and pulling hard at the top end of the run, too. That Corvette driver never saw it coming.
