Chevy Silverado 1500 Drag Races a C6 Corvette
In a recent Drag Car 4K a C6 Corvette drag races a Chevy Silverado 1500. A 5.7-liter V8 motor propels the Silverado 1500.
Here at Chevrolet forums, we love a good drag race. Especially if both vehicles participating are products of the Golden Tie brand. A recent video YouTube channel Drag Car 4K chronicles an exciting race between a sixth-gen Chevrolet Corvette racing against a Chevy Silverado 1500. As most of our avid leaders might already know, both offerings are powered by engines that are similar in size.
Under the hood of the C6 Corvette, we find a six-liter V8 powerplant. On the other hand, a 5.7-liter V8 motor propels the Silverado 1500. The six-liter LS2 V8 in the ‘Vette could churn out 400 HP of maximum power and 400 lb-ft of peak torque in its prime. It is safe to say that the Corvette has an advantage since, even in its factory spec, the 5.7-liter motor in the Silverado topped off at 285 horsepower.
Furthermore the motor in the Chevy Silverado 1500 sends power to all four corners, unlike the rear-wheel-drive sports car. Nevertheless, the short clip is quite an exciting watch. The video kicks off with the Corvette C6 taking the lead over the Silverado. Considering that the pickup truck weighs over 4520 lbs, it is not surprising the immensely lighter sports car gets off the line quicker.
The red Corvette was also first to cross the finish line faster than the Chevy Silverado. The sports car could cover the quarter-mile in just 12.842 seconds.
The pickup truck was almost 6 seconds slower than the Bowling Green sports car crossing the finish line with a time of 18.557 seconds. There was also a considerable margin between the exit speeds of the two vehicles, with the Corvette crossing the finishing line at a speed of 187.9 MPH. The Silverado followed in with an exit speed of 114.105 MPH.
You can’t help but root for the Silverado as the underdog gives it all during the race. Chevrolet is currently developing an all-electric Corvette. The all-electric Silverado EV also made its global debut to much fanfare recently. We reckon that the EV variants of these nameplates will probably give each other tough competition on the drag strip with electric mobility.
