2016 Chevrolet Colorado 2.8L Duramax Turbo Diesel

One of the most hotly anticipated trucks of this year is the diesel option for the Chevrolet Colorado. Lots of questions are still unanswered, but Chevrolet took the opportunity to answer a few of them for us. We now know how much more the diesel option will cost. We know how you’ll be able to order it. We also know the extra towing capacity it’ll bring.

First, the most important question will probably be the price. Over the V6 engine, the 2.8L Duramax diesel that makes 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque will run you an additional $3,370. For your extra coin, towing capacity is increased by 700 pounds on both the 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive variants.

Going on sale this fall, the diesel will be available on LT and Z71 Crew Cab models, and can be had in both 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive. GVWR is up to 6,000 pounds on the 2-wheel drive and 6,200 on the 4-wheel drive.

Standard features will include an integrated trailer brake controlled and a intelligent diesel exhaust brake system.

The only thing we are still unsure of is fuel economy. We expect it to best the full-size Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, but by how much? We wait and see.
