Chevrolet Lands on Consumer Report‘s Top Picks List — Twice
Scoring a coveted ‘Best Cars of the Year’ spot isn’t easy. Yet, Chevy did it twice!
Automotive awards are seemingly a dime a dozen these days. Pretty much every website or magazine hands them out, which somewhat dilutes their significance. But when you’re talking about prestigious automotive awards, few compare to Consumer Report’s 10 Top Picks, Best Cars of the Year contest. The independent, unbiased reviewer of consumer products goes to great lengths to determine the best of the best. And for 2018, Chevrolet has not one, but two vehicles atop CR’s list.
The Chevrolet Bolt was named the best compact green car for its segment-busting performance. CR praises the Bolt’s “brisk acceleration and tight handling,” “generous charge,” and “mainstream price.” They also call the Bolt an “impressive feat” and “strikingly silent,” with a “commanding view on a par with a small SUV.”
Joining the Bolt is the Chevrolet Impala, which took home the gold for best large car. CR is effusive in their praise for the Impala, calling it a “gem among large cars, providing a driving experience that’s more akin to a luxury car.” They also love its “spacious, quiet cabin,” “high-quality materials and trim,” and “roomy, supportive front seats.” Couple that with a “smooth ride” and “commendable” handling, and you’ve got a clear winner.
It’s an impressive feat given CR’s extensive testing. Vehicles are graded based not only on their own rankings and real-world testing, but also through extensive owner surveys. Overall scores come from a combination of road-test performance, owner satisfaction, safety, and reliability. CR conducts over 50 tests and surveys over a half-million owners.
So it’s safe to say that if you’re looking for a compact EV or full-size cruiser, you can’t go wrong with a Chevrolet. After all, picky testers and millions of owners can’t be wrong, can they?\
