Bow Tie’s off-roading-oriented pickup is a capable desert runner thanks to reinforced tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers and other goodies.

The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is the automaker’s attempt at combining extreme off-roading features in a usable, versatile mid-size pickup truck body. To show off the Colorado ZR2’s off-roading capabilities, Chevrolet has released a few videos of it putting the pickup truck to the test in various situations. The first one has the truck desert running across Arizona and deep-sand testing in Michigan.

The video starts with Chevrolet conducting the “Desert Torture Test” at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona with a test mule. The Colorado ZR2 is a beast at crossing the desert at high speeds thanks to its Duratrac Kevlar tires, two-inch lift, wider track, as compared to the regular Colorado, cast-iron control arms, and, the momentous DSSV dampers from Multimatic.

The features listed above, and so much more, not only give the Colorado ZR2 the ability to travel at high speeds over deserts, and take large jumps with ease, but also the potential to trek through deep sand. The second part of the video takes place at Silver Lake in Michigan where the pickup truck does doughnuts and claws its way through a sand pit.

Chevrolet’s highly-skilled test drivers clearly aren’t holding anything back when testing the Colorado ZR2, which means owners can do the same thing. And still make it home in a comfortable vehicle. Worried about the pickup truck’s ability to run loose on the desert? Watch the video above and let all of your worries blow away in the sand.
