Silverado HD 2500 WT: Capable Budget Off-Roader (Video)

By -

Are your off-road dreams bigger than your budget? The Silverado HD 2500 WT might be your perfect solution.

Sure, we all have dreams of conquering any trail or obstacle mother nature throws our way. But we also can’t all afford to buy some decked out, dedicated off road rig. For those of us with extra large dreams and a medium sized budget, options are few. Sure, we can opt for the new Colorado ZR2. But what if you need a full-size truck?

If you haven’t already noticed, truck prices are skyrocketing. As their popularity and the country’s thirst for fancy trim levels grows, so do sticker prices. That leaves the average Joe out in the cold. Especially if you just want a basic, four wheel drive, four door, full size truck. But there is a solution, and it’s called the Silverado 2500 HD WT.

The Silverado rang in at $44,300, or as TFLT calls it, ‘a hell of a good price for this much truck.’

The WT stands for “Work Truck,” which in the old days meant “bare bones.” But these days, work trucks come with lots of nice options. They allow you to start with the basics and add on only what you need or want. So it makes perfect sense as a budget off road alternative to your fancier Silverado trim levels. And that’s why The Fast Lane Truck decided to take one up Colorado’s Gold Mine Hill and see what she could do.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the refrigerator white Silverado handled the trail with no problem. Despite the driver’s concerns about its 20-inch tires (optional) and low hanging front air dam. And the subject of the test was also outfitted with the old school 6.0 liter V8 – no diesel engine here. But the as-tested price of the Silverado rang in at $44,300, or as TFLT calls it, “a hell of a good price for this much truck.”

They also praise GM for “knocking it out of the park with realistic trucks that real people can buy.” We have to concur. And we think that the once despised work truck trim now represents a true budget off road option for the masses.
