Suburban Brake Line

Suburban rear brake line is free to be picked up in Chicago.

If you have a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban and you live in the Chicago area, you could get a new rear brake line for free from a fellow member of the forum. A member named “7728” posted the item shown here in the classifieds section, but he isn’t looking to sell it. He just trying to give it away, so even if you don’t need it right now, it is a good piece to have on hand if you drive a 17-year old Chevy SUV. After all, it is free and for a vehicle nearing 20-years old, having parts on hand is never a bad idea.

Suburban Brake Line Introduction

When the OP first posted this 2002 Suburban brake line for sale, he provided the following information.

“I have a new brake line from a kit that was not used. It is the brake line that runs under the gas tank. Local pick up in Chicago near Archer and Harlem”

The OP also included the picture above, showing the brake line in question. Unfortunately, there is no part number for this specific brake line, or the kit in which this brake line was purchased. That makes it a bit harder to identify the part and other applications, but if nothing else, we know that this piece is good for a 2002 Suburban.

The 2002 Suburban was part of the ninth generation of the big SUV, which ran from 2000 through 2006. This part may fit other model years, but we don’t know for sure. If you need a brake line for a model from some other year, you may want to find the part number for your vehicle and see if it crosses over to this piece.

Good to Have

Say that you have a 2002 Suburban, or a similar Chevy SUV from another model year of that generation. If you have never replaced the brake lines and you are in the Chicago area, it might be a good idea to get this brake line and replace the piece on your vehicle. After 17 years, the odds are good that a new brake line isn’t a bad idea.

The other option is to get this free brake line and set it aside for the point in time when the line on your Suburban begins to leak, but really, if you are going to do that, it would be a wise choice to have it installed on your next trip to the mechanic.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
